Kajs Brown is visual artist based in Queens, NY.
Kajs earned a BFA in fine art from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD where he focused on drawing, printmaking, and traditional darkroom photography. He has also studied painting at the Art Students League of New York, and is an alumnus of the Educational Center for Arts in New Haven, CT.
His recent paintings focus on portrait-like depictions of plant life found in urban and suburban environments. The title of each work notes the type of location the subject was growing in, the month, the timestamp of the reference photo used for the painting, and a loose common name for the plant depicted. These paintings are a means of contemplating relationships of human and non-human life, perception and classification, cycles of time, and experiences of place.
